Other Services We Offer
Experimental Research / Drug Availability
NeuroCare Center is a member of Integrated Neuroscience Consortium
(INC), a group of research health care centers that are assisting
the pharmaceutical industry in the development of new treatments
for neurologic and psychiatric disorders. After new treatments have
been thoroughly researched in animals, the Federal Drug Administration
reviews the information collected and gives the companies permission
to begin research in human volunteers. These human volunteers are
patients with the disorders who are interested in assisting in the
process of determining the safety and usefulness of these new drugs.
Because NeuroCare Center is a member of INC, we can make these
new investigational treatments available to the selected volunteers
before they are approved for general marketing. The advantage to
the volunteers is that they have early access to the new treatments,
the drug most often is provided free of charge, the health care
of the volunteers is closely monitored, and some or all of the health
care may be provided free to the volunteer. Reimbursement is sometimes
available.
All research that is performed with human volunteers is regulated
and closely monitored by the Office for Protection for Research
Risks (OPRR) and through organizations called Institution Review
Boards (IRB). Each volunteer is provided a detailed description
of the proposed activities, risks, and benefits associated with
participation in the research.
Through these studies, NeuroCare Center can provide treatments
formerly available only at major universities and research centers.
Our center will be participating in research on a variety of treatments.
