A Basic Explanation
As you may know, our physicians are specialists. A neurologist
is trained in disorders of the nervous system as it relates
to the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles. It is our belief
that you should depend upon your personal physician for your general
medical health concerns. After each appointment with us, we will
send a letter to your personal physician, updating him on our findings.
A pediatric neurologist serves children from birth
to approximately 16 years of age.
A physiatrist is a physician specializing in physical
medicine and rehabilitation. This specialty serves all age groups
and treats a wide range of problems from sore shoulders to spinal
cord injuries. Physiatrists also treat acute and chronic pain as
well as disorders of the muskuloskeletal system.
Our physicians may recommend surgical treatment, but do not perform
the surgery themselves. If surgery is recommended, they will refer
you to an appropriate surgical specialist.
